Pitfall!, written with the exclamation mark, is a one player game for Atari 2600 released by the Activision company in 1982.
You controll a character, whose mission is to get through a jungle full of pitfalls. You can go to the left or to the right. Each direction contains of 32 levels (screens). Once you collect the final item in the last level, the game ends without any ending ceremony. There is a time limit for the whole game and it is impossible to make all 32 levels on time. This is why you need to use a tunnel, which will push you 3 levels forward and give you a heads up. The problem is, that you can get surprised by a wall after passing few screens, therefore the tunnel walkthrough is a waste of time.
It is almost impossible to finish the game because of the time limit. You need to plan your steps and find out where going through the tunnel is an advantage and where it is a waste of time. Besides the time limit, the game is quite easy.
There are several dangers waiting for you on your way. Scorpion or the above mentioned wall in the tunnels, or snakes, fires, swamps, crocodiles, rolling barrels and other things when going through the regular path.
You are collecting points by picking up items through the game. If you get hit by a rolling barrel or fall down to the tunnel, you lose these points. It is possible to collect a total of 114 thousand points in the game.
Controlls: Move the joystick to the left or right for moving on the ground, up and down for a ladder climbing, or press the button for a jump or for a release from a liana.
