Fishing Derby for Atari 2600 belongs to the first group of four games released by a new company - Activision. The game was released in 1980.

Fishing Derby is a simple fishing-race game for one or two payers. The game is set by pressing the SELECT button. You can see a sideview of two piers on your screen with a fisherman sitting on each one of them. There is a sea between them, occupied with many fish and also a shark. The goal of this game is to catch fish worth 99 points faster than your oppononent. You can control your fish line with the joystick by moving it in all directions and try to guide the hook to some of the fish. Once the fish is caught, it begins to shake and the control is a little more difficult. Now you need to pull the fish out of the water by pressing the joystick button, however you need to beware of the shark, who may eat your fish. After the fish is pulled out the water, you obtain points. You get 6 points for fish pulled out from the largest depth, 4 points for the middle-depth fish and 2 points for fish closest to the surface. The game ends in the moment when one of the players get 99 points.
